1. Purdue (3-0)

Every game that Purdue plays this season gets them further from the questions about last year’s ending, with that dreadful loss to 16-seed Fairleigh Dickinson a painful memory. Obviously, the return of Zach Edey has the Boilermakers’ fortunes looking quite bright and they kept a great start to this new season going this past week.

Playing as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games, the Boilermakers started their season with a third straight home date, this time against Xavier. Albeit a much better opponent than Purdue had in the opening week, they still made somewhat easy work of the Musketeers, grabbing an 83-71 victory. Edey was unsurprisingly the star with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks while the Boilermakers shot 47% from outside the arc and had another great offensive performance as a team.

Nothing we’ve seen in the first two weeks has changed the forecast for Purdue: the Boilermakers are one of the national favorites this season. It’s not just Edey; their pair of sophomore guards look even better this season, not to mention the other contributors on this squad. However, they’re about to get really tested as the Boilermakers are off to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational, getting a big game against Gonzaga next Monday to start things off.
