NCAA Basketball: Kentucky, Arkansas fall in latest top 25 power ranking

19. Memphis (3-0)
Penny Hardaway has landed some great recruits at Memphis, though the results have sometimes been lacking for the Tigers. This year’s squad looks keen to provide some of those results, getting the season off to a really solid start. Memphis now looks like one of the best programs in the AAC, though they’ll get plenty of chances to prove themselves prior to conference play.
Fresh off that great road win at Missouri last week, Memphis held serve on Friday night, winning their only game of the week. While not the prettiest performance, the Tigers won 92-75 over Alabama State, doing just enough to win the game with relative ease. David Jones had 22 points and 10 rebounds while the team shot 44% from outside the arc in the victory.
All things considered, this Memphis squad looked magnificent against Missouri and less fantastic against weaker opposition at home. The Tigers are still looking for balance but have done enough to secure a spot on the rankings, especially with so many teams around them dropping winnable games and other opportunities. Speaking of opportunities, the Tigers head to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis, beginning Wednesday against a Michigan team coming off a dreadful week.
