In the latest recognition by BIG EAST, Creighton’s dynamic guard, Trey Alexander, secures the prestigious BIG EAST Player of the Week title, while Seton Hall’s rising star, Isaiah Coleman, claims the well-deserved honor of BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. This week’s accolades reflect their outstanding performances contributing to significant victories for their respective teams.
BIG EAST Player of the Week: Trey Alexander, Creighton, G, Jr.
Trey Alexander’s stellar performance propelled Creighton to a flawless 2-0 week, including a standout win against Iowa in the Gavitt Tipoff Games. The junior guard showcased his all-around excellence, averaging an impressive 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 8.5 assists. Alexander opened the week with a stellar performance, securing 23 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists in a compelling 92-84 triumph over Iowa. He continued his remarkable week with 20 points, eight assists, and seven boards in an 82-54 victory against Texas Southern.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week: Isaiah Coleman, Seton Hall, G, Fr.
Seton Hall’s Isaiah Coleman had a standout week, contributing significantly to the Pirates’ perfect 2-0 record. The freshman guard averaged 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, demonstrating his prowess on the court. In a commanding 96-71 victory over Albany, Coleman scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. His impact continued in a 72-51 win against Wagner, where he added seven points and four rebounds, showcasing a commendable 57 percent shooting accuracy throughout both games.
BIG EAST Honor Roll:
Tristen Newton, Connecticut, G, Gr. Averaged an impressive 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists during a successful 2-0 week. Notably, Newton displayed a stellar performance at Madison Square Garden, contributing 23 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists in a convincing 77-57 victory over Indiana.
Dontrez Styles, Georgetown, G, Jr. Led Georgetown to a notable 2-1 week, averaging 21.0 points and 8.7 rebounds. Styles demonstrated exceptional consistency, recording a total of 48 points, 19 rebounds, and five assists in wins over Mount St. Mary’s and American.
Tyler Kolek, Marquette, G, Sr. Made a significant impact in Marquette’s victory against No. 23 Illinois, recording 24 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Kolek’s stellar performance included shooting 10-of-18 from the field.
Devin Carter, Providence, G, Jr. Averaged an impressive 19.0 points, 8.7 boards, and 2.7 assists during a 2-1 week. Carter’s standout performance included a crucial role in the Baha Mar Championship, where Providence showcased resilience and competitiveness.
Joel Soriano, St. John’s, G, Sr. Averaged an impressive 14.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in a dynamic 2-2 week. Soriano demonstrated efficiency with a 61.1 percent shooting accuracy and posted double-doubles in notable wins over North Texas and Utah.
