NCAA Basketball: 2023 Battle 4 Atlantis preview and predictions
By John Makuch
The 12th year of the Battle 4 Atlantis, one of the more publicized early-season NCAA Basketball tournaments we have on the college basketball slate, is about to arrive. Eight teams will head to the Bahamas to play in a single elimination tournament with a losers bracket as well, so each team is going to get their games here.
As for the teams participating in this tournament; UNC, Villanova, Michigan, Arkansas, Stanford, Memphis, Texas Tech, and UNI, will make up the field this season. From Nov. 22-24, each of these squads will play three consecutive games and one of them will come out of paradise with three straight wins and will be crowned champions of the Battle 4 Atlantis.
With this tournament bringing in some high-notoriety programs, it also gets some elite talent to come through the Bahamas as well. Some notable most valuable player recipients include; De’andre Hunter, Jalen Brunson, Frank Kaminsky, and Quinn Cook. Out of the teams that are in it this year, Villanova has won the Battle 4 Atlantis twice with wins in 2013 and 2017. And Michigan took down Gonzaga in 2019 for their first victory in this tournament, now both teams are decent seeds and will have a good shot to take home another one for their program.
Last season, the Tennessee Volunteers would go on to win the tournament after a 64-50 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks in a huge win for that season for them. Santiago Vescovi would take home the most valuable player for the Vols. But let’s go ahead and meet the teams that will be participating this year.
