Bracketology 2024: Purdue, Villanova, and BYU among Feast Week winners
8. Florida State Seminoles
The Seminoles are coming off a disastrous past season and are still waiting on a transfer waiver for Primo Spears, who averaged around 18 ppg at Georgetown last year. Around a week ago, this was a team that got destroyed by Florida, losing by 31 points.
So there weren’t a lot of expectations for the ACC team in the Sunshine Slam. And they were even trailing against UNLV in the semifinal matchup in the second half. They ultimately prevailed, 83-75. The next opponent was Colorado, who was unbeaten and ranked in the top 20 overall heading into this event.
It was a game that went into overtime but Florida State was able to get the massive Quad 1 victory, 77-71. Jalen Warley led the team with 19 points but the star of the game was Jamir Watkins, a transfer forward from VCU who produced 18 pts, 11 rebs, 4 asts, and 4 stls. The Seminoles have shown they have enough offense without Spears and in a week where the ACC by in large failed to get a lot of big wins, they stand out for beating Colorado.
FSU needed a buffer because this upcoming week will be tough for them. It starts out with Georgia at home in the ACC/SEC Challenge, followed by a road trip to UNC to start league. After seeing the results from the Florida/Colorado games, this will help show how good this team actually is.
