Make no mistake: the NCAA basketball season always delivers, even if not always in the way we expect. There are always upsets and unexpected performances, even in the initial weeks of the season. We’re still less than a month into this new season, but sometimes it only takes a few weeks to destroy preseason predictions or exceed those expectations.

While we’re still months away from March Madness and several weeks away from conference play, this past week was pretty exciting because of the holiday tournaments. All of these events create excitement and intrigue, with events like the Maui Invitational, Battle 4 Atlantis, and ESPN Events Invitational really attracting attention, likely because they each had several ranked teams.

Today, we’re updating our Top 25 rankings and looking closely at what’s been going on for those top teams. Obviously, a lot has changed for teams involved in these holiday tournaments, some of whom played three games in three days during those stretches. We’re certainly at the point in the season where we’re considering the strength of a team’s record more than the actual record itself, especially with some of these loaded tournament fields.

We’re just getting this college basketball season started, so it’s obvious that the 25 teams listed today may not be the 25 best in the nation. Some of these teams are coming off really hot performances this past week while others did enough to remain among the ranked. There are still a handful of unbeaten teams that aren’t ranked, though we’ve got our attention on each of the dozens of teams in the nation. Without further ado, let’s start running through these rankings.
