Seton Hall Basketball: 3 takeaways from win over Northeastern
By John Makuch
1. The Pirates let the Huskies hang around too long
This was just alluded to, but while this was not a stressful game for Seton Hall, it was not stress-free either. Northeastern was cutting the lead multiple times throughout his game, and it took a very long time until the Pirates could get a handle on this game and dominate.
It was another slow first half yet again that has plagued Seton Hall not just this year but a majority of last year as well, both in Big East and nonconference play. This was a game against an opponent that is out of conference, under .500, and not at all near the level of where Seton Hall should be playing basketball. Northeastern played a great game given the situation, and they have a bright future, but the Pirates needed to win this game by at least 20 points.
Seton Hall defensively was not playing screens well defensively against Northeastern, and the pride of Shaheen Holloway, which was that defensive end of the floor, has not been as strong this year. There was no true danger of actually losing this game, but there was plenty of cause for concern that Northeastern would go on a run and make things interesting.
Seton Hall had their star power to get them through this one though, and it was your usual nonconference game where the big men help separate you. Jaden Bediako stepped up when needed offensively with 13 points, and got some clutch buckets near the end of this one.
