UConn Basketball: 3 keys to taking down Kansas Jayhawks
By John Makuch
A battle between blue bloods will take place at Allen Fieldhouse as the UConn Huskies will travel to Lawrence to take on the Kansas Jayhawks. The Huskies have done a great job in their title defense so far, and now this is their true test in a matchup between the No. 4 Huskies, and the No. 5 Jayhawks.
UConn has not beaten a top-five non-conference opponent on the road since 1999. They took down No. 4 Stanford as the No. 1 team in the nation and were able to do it without Richard Hamilton. Now they will be without Stephon Castle and will look to pull off a similar feat.
Their opponents, the Jayhawks, scraped by against Eastern Illinois 71-63, and a loss there would have ruined a ton of hype behind the matchup. But, Kansas pulled away despite Eastern Illinois bringing it within one. Now, this is a matter of Kansas proving itself around the nation.
Meanwhile, UConn took care of business in their last game, beating New Hampshire by 20 in a strong showing. So the Huskies are playing better right now, but we will see what happens in Lawrence.
This matchup is also going to be huge for poll positioning with the winner putting together a great case to be the number one team in the entire nation. These blue blood programs have also only met three times surprisingly, but with Kansas leading the series 3-0, how can UConn get their first win against this team?
