UConn Basketball: 3 keys to taking down Kansas Jayhawks
By John Makuch
3. Hit their outside shots, plain and simple
I know this sounds simple, but this is the biggest point of concern for the Huskies following their win. Despite the large margin of victory against New Hampshire, this was an abysmal shooting night for UConn from behind the arc.
Cam Spencer had a breakout game where he went 3-7 from three in a great scoring effort. Given the score you would think the rest of UConn followed suit, but no, the rest of UConn was a rough 1-21 from three.
It totaled out to 4-28 shooting from three for the Huskies and that is not going to win you basketball games, especially against a team like Kansas or any ranked opponent for that matter. The Jayhawks also did not shoot well themselves in their near loss, so something will have to give here or we will just have an awful shooting night as a whole from both sides.
One would imagine with the talent both of these teams have that the shooting will find a way to fix itself, but the Huskies will have needed to get in the gym and put up shots to get back into a rhythm. Players like Alex Karaban, Tristen Newton, and Solomon Ball will all need to improve after going a combined 1-17 against New Hampshire.
Everywhere else on the floor, they excelled, except for the shooting, and in today’s game that can be a killer despite playing perfectly everywhere else. If UConn is going to shoot at that volume, then shots have to fall if they want to come out of this with a chance at being the No.1 team in the entire nation.
