Nebraska Basketball: 3 keys to Cornhuskers beat Creighton Bluejays
By Bryan Mauro
It’s Rivalry Week in Nebraska and it is time for the annual Creighton and Nebraska Basketball matchup. This year the game is going to be at Pinnacle Bank Arena. It is already sold out and if you live in or around the area, if you can find a ticket, get to the game because the Nebraska and Creighton game is always electric. There is more riding on the game this year than in many years past. Nebraska is trying to prove that they are for real this year and Creighton is trying to prove that the Huskers win in Omaha last year was a blip and the Bluejays are still the premier program in the state.
The Cornhuskers enter the game at 7-0 which is their best start since the 1992-1993 season. Nebraska is one of the last remaining undefeated teams left. The Huskers are starting to look like a team who could have a magical season in Lincoln, but the competition instantly gets much better, and it is now time to show up and prove they are good this year. Creighton enters the game at 6-1 and as one of the best offensive teams in the country. They are prolific from beyond the arc and have one of the best big men in the country. The Huskers do match up well with Creighton from a personnel standpoint, but can the Huskers make enough plays?
That is always a question over the last 20 years of this rivalry. Nebraska either wins or loses big. They very rarely keep the game close. Creighton has been known to get out to huge leads early and cruise to an easy victory. Last year Nebraska won, and this year may be the Huskers best team they have had in quite some time. If Nebraska wins it would be their best start at 8-0 since 1977-1978. It would be a quad 1 win for the entire year and would give the Huskers bragging rights for two straight years.
It won’t be easy, and it is going to take a full team effort for Nebraska to do what the fans in Omaha think is impossible but it may not be as impossible as it has been in the previous years. Here are three things the Huskers need to focus on to head into conference play undefeated.
