2. Kansas’ early start was too much to deal with

Probably the main way UConn was going to find a way to win this game was to get off to a good start early, but that did not happen. Kansas got out to a 16-5 start, and it is just so tough to come out and tie the game back up when a team dominates so early. The Jayhawks are a national contender, and you just cannot give teams like that early opportunities and allow them to get the crowd involved right out of the gate.

UConn showed that they could handle this type of pressure, and this offense eventually found its groove and we got a classic top-five matchup, but this was a nightmare start for UConn. When have to play catch-up that early, against a team like this it can feel as if you are playing catch-up for the entire game, but the Huskies rebounded well.

The Huskies even brought it all the way to a five-point lead, but by the time you make that comeback your team is so exasperated that a run from Kansas was imminent, and that is exactly what happened.  They also had to deal with the great performance from Mccullar, but it was only a matter of time before the final run from the Jayhawks would happen.

UConn did get a chance to tie the game with a Cam Spencer three in the game’s final moments, but it did end up going offline, and free throws made this a four-point loss. A quicker start for UConn would have been well for them, but this is early in the season, the team is banged up, and there is plenty of time to find their flow early in games.
