25. Wisconsin (6-2)

Before the season began Wisconsin was picked to finish 5th in the Big Ten. At the time this seemed about right for a program bringing plenty of talent back, both young and bold. Greg Gard’s team got their season off to a tough start with big losses to Tennessee and Providence, but have significantly bounced back in the weeks since, including that 24-point blowout of Virginia.

This last week began on Monday with a 71-49 home win over Western Illinois. It was a balanced effort for the Badgers, who were led by 13-point outings from Steven Crowl, Chucky Hepburn, and AJ Storr. What they accomplished this past weekend was far more impressive, really delivering in a 75-64 victory against Marquette. Max Klesmit led the team with 21 points as the Badgers led throughout, getting a key win over both a rival and a Top 5 opponent.

Nothing can necessarily erase a 1-2 start, but the Badgers have certainly erased any uncertainties from that start, especially with their performances against both Virginia and Marquette. The Badgers have done what they’ve needed and been electric on defense in recent weeks. They’ll need those good vibes to continue in a major way, as next week features road games at Michigan State and Arizona.
