NCAA Basketball: Western Carolina and Northwestern with Players of the Week
By Bryan Mauro
Its Monday which means it is time for another edition of the Busting Brackets Player of the Week. There was a two week break between these articles and that is due to me being ill over the last week. I am good to go this week and ready to hand out some weekly recognition to the two players who performed the best over the week. The Busting Brackets Player of the Week is not an award that has a trophy or means anything other than getting the recognition from a college basketball site.
Anyone who had been paying attention to the games over the past week knows who the players of the week are, and it wasn’t close. Two players stood out way above the rest of the pack. Those of you not familiar with the articles I look at all the games and choose the two best players of the week. One from the mid major ranks and one from the Power five ranks. I then choose the best player from all the players I deemed worthy of the award.
There are far more mid major teams than there is power five teams and the pool of available players is always going to be larger. This week there were three mid major players who made the award very hard to choose. There was a 40-point game, multiple 30-point games and multiple high rebound games. The player I chose was the most consistent out of all the players in the Mid Major ranks. The power five player was an easy choice especially given how well he performed against one of the best teams in the country. The mid major player of the week is first.
