NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga, BYU falls, and Virginia rises in latest top-25 power ranking
14. Miami Hurricanes 7-1 (1-0)
After winning its ACC opener against Notre Dame last week, Miami took on LIU Brooklyn, an NEC program that has just one win on the season. It wasn’t going to be No. 1 against the Hurricanes, with the favorites up 53-18 at halftime. They were able to coast to a 97-49 win and nearly double them up.
Five players were in double figures in the game, led by Norchad Omier with 17 pts and 13 rebs. Guards Wooga Poplar and Nijel Pack made a couple of 3s, while freshman guard Kyshawn George had 13 off the bench on 4/6 shooting in 20 minutes. That was a season-high for him early on and his role has started to increase.
This team has a game on Sunday against a very talented Colorado roster. They’re a team with plenty of size, led by Cody Williams and Tristan Da Silva. It’s a team that the Hurricanes may struggle with unless their small-ball lineups cause them problems.
With La Salle and Stonehill the last games on the non-con schedule, Miami could use a win over the Buffaloes to improve its resume. Otherwise, they’ll need wins over Kansas State and Georgia to look better down the road.
