NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga, BYU falls, and Virginia rises in latest top-25 power ranking
8. Creighton Bluejays – 8-1
After beating Oklahoma State in the Big 12/Big East battle, the Bluejays remained on the road against Nebraska, who was unbeaten at that time. Considering the upset loss to their rivals a year ago, it was a game where Creighton was going to be up for to get revenge.
And that’s what they did, dominating the game from start to finish to get the 89-60 victory. Baylor Scheierman, who arguably has been the team’s best overall player so far this year, had a game-high 24 pts and 10 rebounds. Steven Ashworth, Trey Alexander, and Ryan Kalkbrenner all had 13 pts each, with the big man grabbing 12 rebounds as well.
The game on Saturday against Central Michigan proved to be an even bigger blowout. Creighton scored 50+ points in both halves to run away with a 109-64 win. Six players had at least 13 pts in the game, led by 18 pts from Issac Traudt off the bench and 17 pts from Mason Miller. Kalkbrenner was perfect in his 17 minutes on the court, going 7/7 from the field for 15 pts.
The Bluejays have two games this upcoming week, starting with a potentially tricky neutral site game against UNLV. They’re coming off a loss to LMU but still has some talent that could cause problems. After them is a home battle against Alabama, which could easily become a shootout with a ton of points.
