25. Virginia Cavaliers – 9-1 (1-0)

The Cavaliers only had one game this past week, a home matchup against NC Central. As expected, the MEAC program had little hope of solving the pack-line defense of Virginia, scoring just 17 points in the first half. The favorites won handily, 77-47.

Continuing his strong run to start the season is Isaac McKneely, who had 22 pts on 6/8 shooting from deep. Leon Bond III had 14 pts off the bench, while Elijah Gertrude chipped in with 13 pts in 21 minutes. Gertrude, a four-star freshman prospect, is now shooting 57% from the field and has given the Cavaliers a lift off the bench overall.

UVA has now won four games in a win, with the lone loss of the season coming against Wisconsin. But if we throw that ugly performance aside, this new-look roster still has wins over the lines of Florida, Texas A&M, and Syracuse to open league play. After the losses that Duke and Miami recently took, a case can be made that this should be the team to beat in the ACC.

We’ll have to wait a bit before we see the Cavaliers again, as their next game is Saturday against Northeastern. But after them is a key road matchup at Memphis.
