20. Texas Longhorns – 7-2

One of a few marquee games of the week that wasn’t on Saturday was Texas going on the road to face Marquette and its old coach Shaka Smart in the Big East/Big 12 Battle. In a game that looked to be competitive on paper ended up being a blowout by the Golden Eagles, racing out to a double-digit lead and never looking back.

The final was an 86-65 defeat, with only one player scoring more than 10 points. Max Abmas had 25 points and three of the team’s four made three-pointers, while Chendall Weaver had 10 pts off the bench. The other starters struggled, though Dillon Mitchell was two points shy of a double-double.

It was a much easier time for Texas on Saturday, holding Houston Christian to just 17 first-half points en route to a 77-50 win. Abmas once again led the team in scoring with 16 pts, along with seven assists. He had more help this time around, with 13 pts and 12 rebs from Mitchell, along with 15 pts from big man Kadin Shedrick.

There’s just one game on the schedule this week for Texas, a neutral site battle with LSU. After a loss to Kansas State, this SEC program isn’t on the greatest of momentum. But if the Longhorns don’t take them serious, it could be a tougher-than-expected game.
