Bracketology 2024: Clemson, Utah, and Washington among week’s biggest winners
4. UConn Huskies
The Huskies got one of the few big wins last week that wasn’t on a Saturday, beating North Carolina in the Jimmy V Classic. That neutral site victory is almost guaranteed to be a Quad 1 resume-builder, which currently is their lone one until that Texas victory gets better.
There’s no question that UConn is one of the best teams in the country but they do need to get some big signature wins for its push for a 1 seed. That UNC win is a good start and they have a chance to get another one this week, taking a Gonzaga in Seattle this Friday.
3. Grand Canyon Antelopes
Could the Antelopes be a sneaky at-large candidate to watch out of the WAC? They currently have a trio of Quad 1 wins, as San Francisco currently is in the top 50 of the NET rankings. The Lopes managed to add two more last week, upsetting a ranked San Diego State squad at home, followed by beating Liberty on the road.
Grand Canyon is currently 8-1 on the season and already 2-0 in WAC play. They’ve looked to be the clear best team in the league and like former conference rival New Mexico State, has a chance to run the league. But if they can avoid a bad loss or two and get to around 30 wins total, the Lopes may not need the at-large bid in the conference tournament.
