Georgetown and Notre Dame could use a win as they round out non-con play. Which rebuilding program has the edge in this matchup?

TV schedule: Saturday, December 16th, 2:15 pm ET, CW Network

Arena: Purcell Pavilion in South Bend, Indiana

In the past, Georgetown and Notre Dame were a fierce Big East rivalry that usually was a ranked matchup. But both programs have struggled in the past few years and underwent a coaching change last offseason. One of the most notable hires was the Hoyas landing Ed Cooley from Providence.

So far, Georgetown is 6-4, coming off back-to-back losses to TCU and Syracuse before beating Coppin State on Tuesday night. On its retooled roster, the Hoyas have found a couple of nice pieces from the transfer portal. Jayden Epps is averaging around 20 ppg after coming over from Illinois, while Dontrez Styles is second in scoring at over 15 ppg after leaving North Carolina.

Their opponent is Notre Dame (4-5, 0-1), who has lost three of four games. All three of those defeats were on the road, though they were down 18-0 to start the game against Marquette, falling 78-59. New coach Micah Shrewsberry has a completely new roster himself, with a bunch of freshmen getting meaningful minutes.

The Irish has just one double-digit scorer on the roster right now in Markus Burton, a freshman who leads them with 15.7 ppg and 3.7 apg. They have a few guys averaging just under 10 ppgs in Tae Davis, Julian Roper, and JR Konieczeny.

The reality of this game is that neither program likely has any postseason aspirations but this is somewhat an even and winnable matchup for both sides. Notre Dame being at home gives them a welcomed advantage in the game and Georgetown needs someone other than Epps in the backcourt to get going to win.

I like the Irish to get a good win to feel good about themselves entering ACC play.

Prediction: Notre Dame 70, Georgetown 65
