Earlier this week, the Texas basketball program officially announced the hire of new head coach Sean Miller early this offseason. As the Texas men's program turns the page to a new chapter after three seasons under Rodney Terry at the end of the 2024-25 campaign this spring, Miller has the task of rebuilding the roster going into the upcoming season for 2025-26.

The Longhorns have some key pieces in the core part of the rotation who could return for another season in 2025-26 in the backcourt unit. Junior guard Chendall Weaver and senior guard Tramon Mark highlight the key Longhorns players who have eligibility to return for another season for Texas in 2025-26 this offseason.

Since the spring portal window opened this Monday (March 24), the Longhorns are expected to see various players enter the NBA Draft early and declare their intentions to transfer out of the program. Texas also has a handful of players who exhausted their eligibility following the end of the 2024-25 season this spring.

Tre Johnson, G

Freshman guard Tre Johnson is hands down the most impactful roster loss the Longhorns will experience this offseason in the starting lineup. Johnson is expected to be a lottery pick this summer in the 2025 draft.

While Johnson has not made the formal announcement yet, he is fully expected to declare early for the 2025 NBA Draft this summer, following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season with the Longhorns.

Texas's new head coach, Miller, said this week that Johnson "needs to go" to the NBA Draft since that was the original expectation when he was recruited to Texas with the 2024 class.

Arthur Kaluma, F

Forward Arthur Kaluma is one of many Longhorns' players in the frontcourt rotation who exhausted their eligibility following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Kaluma was arguably Texas's most consistent two-way starter in the frontcourt during non-conference play a few months ago.

Kaluma was a critical source of secondary scoring and paint rebounding for the Longhorns in the season that was. He led the team in rebounding (7.5 rebounds per game) and ranked second in scoring (12.3 points per game).

A lower-body injury limited Kaluma's time on the court and hampered his game down the stretch this past season for the Longhorns.

Kadin Shedrick, C

Senior center Kadin Shedrick spent his final two seasons of eligibility in college at Texas in the past couple of years with the Longhorns' frontcourt rotation. Shedrick upped his contributions with paint scoring, rebounding, and rim protection this past season for the Longhorns down low.

Shedrick ended his career at Texas in college with three straight games scoring in double figures, including back-to-back 14-point performances in the SEC Tournament in the overtime win over Texas A&M and the quarters against Tennessee a couple of weeks ago.

This past season was the first time that Shedrick was the full-time starting center for every game he played for the frontcourt at Texas and Virginia since 2021.
