The Texas basketball program and UT athletic director Chris Del Conte wasted no time getting down to work and attacking the early portion of this 2025 offseason this spring.
Early last week, Texas officially announced the hiring of new head basketball coach Sean Miller. The former Xavier Musketeers head coach Miller has gotten down to work right away with targeting recent entrants in the spring transfer portal over the past week.
Miller and the Longhorns are likely to return key upperclassman guards Chendall Weaver and Tramon Mark going into the 2025-26 early this offseason.
Key departures in the backcourt and the starting bigs means the Longhorns and Miller will go into the spring transfer portal to start rebuilding the roster within the program.
Nick Davidson, F (Nevada)
Texas's frontcourt rotation needs to replace a few key departing seniors early this offseason from the transfer portal. Senior starting center Kadin Shedrick and forwards Arthur Kaluma and Jayson Kent all exhausted their eligibility following the end of this past season for the Longhorns.
Miller has prioritized filling out the frontcourt rotation, including contacting recent Nevada Wolf Pack junior big man transfer Nick Davidson this spring in the portal.
On3's Joe Tipton reported on March 30 that Texas is among the schools that have contacted Davidson since he entered the portal a couple of weeks ago. A visit to Texas could be in the near future for Davidson since the Longhorns contacted him in the past few days, based on recent reporting.
Davidson brings a good combination of size and proven experience in the frontcourt, at 6-foot-10 and 215 pounds. The two-time MWC All-Conference selection for the Wolf Pack, Davidson led Nevada in scoring, rebounding, and blocks this past season.
Dailyn Swain, F (Xavier)
Texas is battling one Big Ten program for former Xavier sophomore transfer forward Dailyn Swain. Miller coached up Swain over the past couple of seasons with the Musketeers. This past season, Swain earned a bigger role in the rotation, starting a career-high 33 games while scoring in double figures for the first time in his collegiate career at Xavier.
Swain visited Texas officially on Monday early this week, according to a report from Horns247 on March 31. He also visited Columbus to see the Ohio State Buckeyes late last week.
Ryan Conwell, G (Xavier)
Texas is making a play for former Xavier standout junior guard Ryan Conwell in the portal this spring to fill out the starting backcourt from the transfer market. Conwell spent this last season at Xavier with Miller after transferring two times in as many offseasons in 2024.
The Third-Team All-Big East guard selection for the Musketeers in 2024-25 played at Indiana State with Texas guard Julian Larry and Kent before all three former Sycamores players transferred out last offseason in 2024.
Conwell is reportedly expected to take an official visit to Texas this week. He is expected to make the trip to Austin a little over 24 hours after the conclusion of his former Xavier teammate's (Swain) official visit to Texas on Monday (March 31).
The other two schools Conwell is reportedly expected to visit officially this week are the Indiana Hoosiers and Louisville Cardinals.
