Luke Loucks
Something very important in head coaching searches, especially for power conference programs in leagues like the ACC, is not leaving any stone unturned. Loucks’ name will be mentioned by a lot of people for this position even though he has the least amount of experience of any name we’ll mention today. Regardless, could he be the next great face of this program?
A Florida native, Loucks played for Hamilton at Florida State from 2008 to 2012, helping the Seminoles to four straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. He went undrafted and spent the next four years playing professionally both overseas and in the G League. In 2016, Loucks began his coaching career on Steve Kerr’s staff with the Golden State Warriors, winning a pair of NBA titles in his first two seasons. He’s served as an assistant with the Sacramento Kings for the last three years.
Loucks is considered an up and coming coach on the rise, but he has just eight years as an NBA assistant as his experience. He has the makings of a great head coach, but would Loucks win in the ACC after his only experience came on NBA staffs? There’s a lot of intrigue around Loucks for this program, though this has the potential to be another disappointing NBA hire in college ball.
