7. SMU Mustangs

2025-26 record: 20-14 (8-10)

Likely departures

  • Kevin Miller (19.1 ppg and 6.4 apg)
  • Jaron Pierre (17.6 ppg and 4.9 rpg)
  • Corey Washington (11.4 ppg and 4.9 rpg)
  • BJ Edwards (12.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, and 4.9 apg)
  • Samet Yigitoglu (10.7 ppg and 7.9 rpg)
  • Sam Walters (2.6 ppg and 1.0 rpg)

Likely returnees

  • Jaden Toombs (8.3 ppg and 4.6 rpg)
  • Jermaine O’Neal Jr. (4.5 ppg and 2.0 rpg)

Roster additions

  • Rowan Brumbaugh (19.2 ppg and 3.5 apg at Tulane)
  • David Terrell Jr. (13.5 ppg and 4.8 apg at North Texas)
  • Johan Munch (7.9 ppg and 5.1 rpg at Oregon State)
  • Jaylin Stewart (4.2 ppg and 2.6 rpg at UConn)
  • Nic Codie (4.1 ppg and 3.1 rpg at Texas)

All five double-digit scorers from last year are gone, but a case can be made that Toombs was the Mustang’s most talented player on the roster. His return is big as a consensus breakout candidate and the interior defense will upgrade, thanks to Codie and Munch joining the fold.

The pressure will be on Brumbaugh to be the lead guard, while Stewart is due for a larger role after leaving UConn. SMU’s defense should be improved, but at what expense for the offense?
