Gonzaga Basketball has been one of the more notable programs to watch over the past few weeks, as dozens of players have been looking and have even been granted an extra year of eligibility through legal action against the NCAA. Considering the surprise roster departures the Bulldogs experienced, including starting guard Mario Saint-Supery leaving for overseas basketball, it makes sense for them to be in the mix for guards.
In fact, Gonzaga has already landed former Dayton guard Javon Bennett. It’s still widely expected that the team will look to add another ball-handler, with players such as Donovan Dent and Xaivian Lee rumored to be options. So it came as a surprise to many that the next addition for the Bulldogs wasn’t a guard but rather a frontcourt piece.

Chauncey Wiggins is a 6’10 forward who spent his first three years at Clemson, primarily as a role player. He transferred to Florida State a year ago, where he went on to produce career-high numbers of 13.3 ppg and 3.9 rpg, shooting 48% from the field and 39% from three-point range on nearly six attempts a game. Wiggins had five games of at least 20 points, including a career-high 31 points and nine rebounds on 6/8 shooting from deep in a home win over SMU.
Wiggins is capable of playing both forward positions, but he’s really more comfortable being on the perimeter. For Gonzaga, that works out perfectly. Their starting frontcourt duo was already set, returning Braden Huff (17.8 ppg and 5.6 rpg), who led the nation in made field goals before his season-ending injury in January. They also landed 7’1 big man Massamba Diop, who averaged 13.6 ppg and 5.8 rpg as a freshman at Arizona State and was one of the top bigs in the transfer portal.
With the addition of Wiggins and 6’10 international forward Izan Almansa and four-star freshman big man Sam Funches, Gonzaga’s frontcourt depth can rival almost any team in the country. Huff is arguably the best interior scorer in the country, while Diop is an NBA Draft prospect who offers interior defense and is a rim runner. Wiggins, a tall floor spacer, gives them even more size without clogging the floor, since he can shoot.
If 6’7 sophomore guard Davis Fogle (8.6 ppg and 3.1 rpg), who played in the frontcourt last season after Huff went down with an injury, starts at the traditional two-spot, then Gonzaga will have one of the biggest lineups in the country, with plenty of scoring potential throughout.
The Bulldogs had one of the top frontcourts in the country last season before injuries ruined it. If everyone stays healthy for the 2026-27 campaign, look for Gonzaga’s frontcourt to lead them to not only its first Pac-12 title but a potential deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
