Andrew Toole Continues Building Robert Morris Into a Horizon League Contender

Now entering his 16th season at Robert Morris, Andrew Toole has become one of college basketball’s youngest long-tenured coaches, guiding the Colonials from the NEC to Horizon League success.

Andrew Toole is preparing for his 16th season as the head coach of Robert Morris basketball. While that kind of tenure is impressive on its own, it’s even more notable considering Toole is still just 45 years old. He took over the Colonials back in 2010 after a playing career at Elon and Penn, and a short coaching path that included one season as an assistant at Lafayette before joining Robert Morris’ staff.

Andrew Toole’s Growth as a Program Builder

Since becoming head coach, Toole has compiled a 252-241 record and turned Robert Morris into one of the most respected mid-major programs in the region. The Colonials have reached three NCAA Tournaments under his leadership, with their most memorable moment coming in 2015. That year, Robert Morris earned a 16 seed in the South Region and defeated North Florida 81-77 in the First Four before falling to top-seeded Duke in Charlotte.

Returning to National Relevance

The Colonials returned to the NCAA Tournament last season, marking their first appearance since joining the Horizon League. After enduring four challenging years in the new conference, Toole guided the program to a 26-9 record, including a 15-5 mark in league play. Robert Morris pushed Alabama in the opening round before ultimately falling 90-81, but the competitive showing highlighted how far the team has come.

Toole’s resume includes two NEC regular season and tournament titles, along with Horizon League championships in both categories as well. He was named NEC Coach of the Year in 2014 and took home Horizon Coach of the Year honors in 2025.

The upcoming 2025-26 season presents a new challenge. The Colonials will start the year with a demanding non-conference schedule, beginning on the road at Iowa on November 4 and then visiting Drake two days later. Robert Morris will host its home opener on November 10 against Geneva. Over Thanksgiving weekend, the Colonials will stay home for matchups with Southern Utah on November 28 and Stetson on November 30.

Toole’s consistency and strong player development have made Robert Morris a factor again in mid-major basketball. As the program continues to grow in the Horizon League, the foundation built over the past decade gives the Colonials a legitimate chance to stay in the postseason mix.
