Arizona and Texas Tech greatly benefits from state of Georgia's 5-for-5 ruling

The biggest storyline in college basketball is unfolding in the court system, where dozens of players are filing lawsuits to get a 5th year of eligibility. After success in the states of Ohio, Tennessee, and North Carolina, athletes contesting in the state of Georgia received good news on Wednesday. 

With the preliminary injunction order in place, over a dozen more D-1 college basketball players are not only granted an extra season, but they are also free to transfer elsewhere. We already know where two of them will go after reported transfer commitments in the past week.

RJ Godfrey to Arizona

Godfrey is a 6’7 power forward coming off a breakout fourth year at Clemson, averaging 12 ppg and 5.3 rpg. He shot 61% from the field but doesn’t spread the floor and will be a bit undersized in the frontcourt. Still, Godfrey is a veteran forward who’ll slide into the four-spot for the Wildcats, playing next to Ivan Kharchenkov and Motiejus Krivas in what should be another top-tier national frontcourt.

Jamichael Stillwell to Texas Tech

Stillwell was one of the top rebounders in the country at Milwaukee two seasons ago, despite being just 6’8. At UCF last year, he was an impact transfer contributor, averaging 11.6 ppg and 8.2 rpg on 51% FG shooting in 30 starts. He had nine double-doubles, including 17 points and 15 rebounds against Cincinnati in the Big 12 Tournament.

Stillwell is set to join Texas Tech, a team that doesn’t have much depth outside of All-American JT Toppin, who is recovering from a torn ACL injury. Stillwell, who can play both the four and five positions, can provide the needed rebounding and interior defense while Toppin is out at the start of the season.

These are two of what’ll be a number of commitments in college basketball for the next few weeks. But these are big pickups for these Big 12 schools, solidifying their respective rosters for the 2026-27 campaign.
