Arizona has not one but two controversial calls late in a costly loss to BYU

In a new angle of the foul on Caleb Love, it shows that the Wildcats were certainly robbed by the refs.

BYU has probably been one of the hottest teams as of late, currently on a four-game win streak, cooling down a hot Kansas State team, handing Kansas a loss that was tied for their largest in the Bill-Self era, and now taking down the No 19 Arizona Wildcats 96-95 at home. However, the game against Arizona didn't seem so cut and dry.

With about 17 seconds left, the Wildcats had the ball only down by one point, and the shot clock was turned off. In five seconds, star guard Caleb Love drove to the basket for a layup, made the shot, and was fouled. However, the ref called that the foul was on the floor and not on the shot, which meant the basket did count, and Love had two foul shots.

Love luckily sank other shots, but the Wildcats had a chance to go up by two instead of just one had he made the foul shot. A new angle of the foul on Love shows that he was fouled on the layup and not on the floor, as he had picked up his ripple and was in the layup shooting motion.

That was the first of two controversial calls in the final 17 seconds of the game. After Love sank his free throws giving his team the lead, BYU had the ball back with 13 seconds left on the clock. After getting the ball down the court, BYU's leading scorer Richie Saunders had the ball in his hands and was trying to drive to the basket.

Saunders was picked up defensively by Arizona's Trey Townsend, who forced Saunders to pick up his dribble from mid-range. Saunders pivoted a couple of times and then threw a shot up that was not even close to the basket. The rebound landed in the hands of Arizona, and the crowd went wild, believing the Wildcats had potentially just won the game.

The fans were sadly mistaken.

A foul was called on Townsend on the shot of Saunders. Looking at the video, it truly is crazy a foul was called as Townden was going straight up with his arms and wasn't leading with his hips defensively. However, that is what the refs called, and Saunders sank both free throws, giving the Cougars a one-point lead.

With three seconds left in the game, Arizona was hoping for another Caleb Love miracle, but the long inbound pass was intercepted, never giving Arizona another chance at the win, and BYU walked away with their fourth straight win.
