A number of quality players who are former Conference Player of the Year winners have entered the transfer portal and quickly found teams. One that’s still available is Tyon-Grant Foster, a 6’7 guard/forward from Kansas City who has been in college basketball since 2018. The former JUCO star played at Kansas and DePaul before dealing with heart issues that caused him to miss nearly two whole years.
At Grand Canyon, Grant-Foster became a star. In 2024, he averaged 20.1 ppg and 6.1 rpg en route to earning WAC Player of the Year. His numbers dipped a bit this past season, producing 14.8 ppg, 5.9 rpg, and shooting just 40% from the field. Still, he’s a talented and versatile wing playmaker who, if eligible and healthy to play, would be a nice late pickup.
Reportedly, there are three West Coast programs in the mix to land Grant-Foster. Here’s a closer look at how Grant-Foster would fit with each of them.
Arizona State Sun Devils
Coach Bobby Hurley has a completely new roster, with not too many proven high-major guys. The projected starting wing is Marcus Adams Jr., a transfer from Cal State Northridge. They could use more depth on the wings, and Grant-Foster wouldn’t have to move much since GCU is so close by. He’d have the largest role compared to the other options, but compared to the Washington schools, he would be at the place least likely to win.
Gonzaga Bulldogs
The Bulldogs’ current options at the forward positions include Steele Venters, who missed the last two years with injuries, Immanuel Innocenti, a solid defensive wing who doesn’t provide a ton of offense, and Braden Huff, a center moving over to the four-spot. Grant-Foster would give them a traditional wing who’d be an offensive option, though his lack of shooting may be a big concern with the rest of the roster. However, even if he has a more limited role, TGF would be with a program almost guaranteed to make the NCAA Tournament for another year.
Washington Huskies
The Huskies have landed a couple of former Conference POY stars in Jacob Ognacevic (Lipscomb) and Quimari Peterson (ETSU). On the wings, they’re likely to start USC transfer Wesley Yates in a three-guard lineup but could also play Grant-Foster there to provide depth. Considering the reported resources the Huskies have, they could potentially offer the most money and have Grant-Foster playing in the Big 12 instead of the WCC. At the same time, Washington may not be an NCAA Tournament team either.
