13. Marquette Golden Eagles - 18-4 (9-2 Big East)

One of the weekend's top matchups was going to be in the Big East, with Marquette hosting UConn in a battle of the top preseason teams. But first, they had to get past Butler earlier in the week. That proved to be tougher than expected, as the Golden Eagles were down by seven at halftime.

But they eventually woke up and outscored the Bulldogs, 43-27, in the final 20 minutes to win 78-69. Kam Jones had 17 points and four assists, but in a rare occurrence, he wasn’t the team’s leading scorer. That honor went to Stevie Mitchell, who produced 22 points on 9/14 FG.

The Saturday matchup against UConn was big for Marquette, looking to solidify its spot as the favorite for the regular-season title. However, they go off to a bad start, trailing by as many as 20 points in the first half. They tried to get back into the game, but the early deficit was too much, falling 77-69 to the Huskies. Jones led them with 22 points, while Chase Ross had 19 points himself.

Things don’t get any easier for the Eagles, as they now have to go on the road to take on the other top teams in the Big East. The first is St. John’s, who is playing better than anyone in the conference at the moment. After that is a matchup at Creighton, who is also in the regular-season title chase.
