10. Texas Tech Red Raiders - 17-4 (8-2 Big 12)
The Red Raiders have quietly been building up wins in league play and had a pair of key games against in-state opponents. The first was a matchup with TCU at home. It was a close contest but in the end, Texas Tech was able to pull out the 71-59 victory. Chance McMillian had 16 points, while forward JT Toppin produced 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Unfortunately for Texas Tech, Toppin wouldn’t be around long for the next matchup at Houston. He was ejected for a flagrant two foul minutes in the game. Head coach Grant McCasland responded by getting ejected himself for not agreeing with the call.
Yet even without its key player and coach, Texas Tech took it to Houston. They led for most of the game and even after it was forced into overtime, they found a way to get the massive 82-81 win after several key baskets. McMillian had a game-high 23 points, while Elijah Hawkins had 17 points and four assists.
Texas Tech stays at home for its next game against Baylor, which is now a key Big 12 matchup. After that, they travel to face Arizona, with the winner of that game potentially being in first place in the league standings.
