22. Saint Mary’s Gaels - 20-3 (10-0 WCC)

There aren’t many teams left without a loss in league play. Saint Mary’s is one of them, who have been dominating teams as of late. That included against Santa Clara on the road, going on a 30-0 run that expanded over 13 minutes to coast to a 67-54 win.

It was by no means an offensive explosion but one that was fairly balanced. Seven players scored between 8-12 points, led by Mitchell Saxen with 12. Forward Paulius Marciulionis had a strong game with nine points and 14 rebounds.

The next opponent was Gonzaga, the Gaels’ big rivals and another NCAA Tournament team out of the WCC. Saint Mary’s was up double-digits early but gave up the lead to have a back-and-forth battle. In the end, they made clutch baskets to survive with a 62-58 win. The star of this one was Mikey Lewis, a freshman guard who dropped 16 points off the bench.

Saint Mary’s is now up three games on the rest of the WCC and the heavy favorite to win the regular-season title. But they have two more tough road games coming up against San Francisco and Oregon State. If they were to slip up before the rematch in Spokane, this would be the time coming up.
