Auburn Basketball: 2024-25 season preview for the Tigers
By Joey Loose
Projected Starters
Guard – JP Pegues (Senior)
One of those major additions from the offseason, Pegues joins the Tigers after spending his first three seasons over at Furman. He became a well-known name for his game-winning shot over Virginia as a sophomore but really stood out last season, averaging 18.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. He’s been one of the best players in the SoCon, has a solid shooting touch, and becomes a massive part of Auburn’s veteran backcourt.
Guard – Denver Jones (Senior)
After brilliant work as an underclassman at FIU, Jones transferred to Auburn last season and enters his second season as a starting guard for the Tigers. Junior year saw him put up 9.1 points per game while making 42% of his 3-pointers in limited chances. The production was clearly less than in the CUSA, though it wouldn’t be a surprise to see much more of him in his second season in this system.
Guard – Miles Kelly (Senior)
Emerging as an important piece these last few seasons at Georgia Tech, Kelly transfers to Auburn for his senior season. A full-time starter for two years, Kelly was very productive with the Yellow Jackets, averaging 13.9 points and 5.5 rebounds a game last season. His shooting numbers were down after earlier brilliance, but he brings a solid rebounding touch and won’t be expected to put up that kind of offensive production.
Guard/Forward – Chad Baker-Mazara (Senior)
Auburn became Baker-Mazara’s fourth school in four years, but the former Duquesne and San Diego State transfer seemed to find his role last season. He earned his way into the starting lineup in the final weeks of the season and averaged 10.0 points and 3.7 rebounds a game. He’s back for one final ride with the Tigers, who are hoping his solid shooting stroke (42% from the 3) and rebounding talent continues in this frontcourt.
Forward/Center – Johni Broome (Senior)
Already responsible for a ton of production, success, and accolades, Broome starred at Morehead State as an underclassman and the former OVC Defensive Player of the Year begins year three with Auburn. Broome averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game last year, earning Third Team All-American honors as one of the best centers in the game. Broome is the ultimate frontcourt weapon and should be one of the SEC’s top players once again.
