As the Tigers and Wolverines collide in the Sweet 16 with no shortage of connections between the two teams. Star Michigan guard Tre Donaldson began his career on the plains, playing for Bruce Pearl and since transferring, he's been the straw that stirs the drink for Dusty May and a force in the Big Ten, averaging 11.5 points on 44% shooting from the floor. Fellow Wolverine Danny Wolf played a part in ending Auburn's season a year ago as a key piece to Yale's NCAA tournament success. He'll pose plenty of problems with his size and mobility as a seven footer that has the skills of a slashing guard.

Auburn comes in having continued their defensive dominance in their first two March Madness games, holding both of their opponents to less than 71 points. Offensively, the Tigers have been paced by the likes of Denver Jones and Chad Baker-Mazara, who both turned in 15+ point efforts against Creighton with the potential Wooden award candidate Johni Broome, chipping in just eight points.

Auburn and Michigan series history

Auburn vs Michigan prediction

Michigan is as hot as any team remaining in the tournament. The Wolverines are winners of five straight and have seemed to really turn up the intensity after dropping their last three games of the regular season. Deep into the tournament is when your stars have to show up and as good as the Auburn supporting cast has been, Friday night is where Johni Broome needs to show up in the scoring column.

The same goes for Michigan and Danny Wolf. Auburn has the length and athleticism that's made finding any real estate in the middle of the floor all the more difficult. It'll be up to Danny Wolf to exploit his size mismatches on the Tiger guards and the same with his speed and craftiness against Auburn's size in the paint.

Vladislav Goldin will help keep things even inside against Broome as a rim detterent, but the guard play in this game will fall in favor of the Tigers and be enough to vault the number one team in the country into the Elite Eight. It'll be a grind it out, possession by possession game throughout, but I see it as Auburn's game to lose in the end.

Prediction: Auburn 72, Michigan 65
