One of the biggest breakout stars in the past few months in the 2027 college basketball recruiting class is Lewis Uvwo, a 6’11 center prospect out of Lagos, Nigeria. He’s a naturally gifted athlete who runs well for a big man and is a physical presence. Uvwo is already projected as a quality rim-running big man who defends, but he surpassed expectations this Summer on the AAU Circuit, posting multiple 10+ block games and making a case for being the best interior defender in the 2027 class.
As a result, Uvwo is now a consensus five-star prospect ranked in the top-10 overall. The latest in his recruitment is that he’s set to visit four different programs in the coming weeks. Here’s a current snapshot of how he’d fit with each potential option.

Baylor Bears
One reason Baylor has struggled in recent years is a lack of frontcourt production on both ends. They hope a healthy Juslin Bodo Bodo will solve that for the upcoming season but will need a quality big man after him. Coach Scott Drew can sell Uvwo on his own development and being a priority need in the 2027 class.
Cal Bears
Coach Mark Madsen has had success with guards in the portal at Cal, but finding capable bigs has been harder. He did get solid production out of Lee Dort last season, but the five-spot is a clear weakness entering this upcoming year. They’ve been in need of more talent and, compared to the other options in the group, could offer Uvwo the chance to be the star of the group, which would be massive if he’s around for just one season before going off to the NBA.
Kentucky Wildcats
There’s a very good chance that both Kentucky centers on the roster will be gone a year from now. Washington transfer Franck Kepnang is entering his 7th year, while Malachi Moreno is a consensus sophomore breakout candidate and likely will enter the 2027 NBA Draft. It’s a premier destination for players, and Uvwo would come in as the clear starter on a contending roster.
Providence Friars
New head coach Bryan Hodgson has made an immediate impact with the Friars this offseason via the transfer portal, landing a roster that should make the NCAA Tournament. His next move is to start landing top freshmen in the 2027 class. His pitch to Uvwo would be the impact he had on Izaiyah Nelson, who became the American Player of the Year last season at South Florida before getting drafted at No. 51 in the recent NBA Draft.
