Many stories can be told each and every day during the college basketball season, but the final chapters are far from being written. No matter what we thought in the preseason or whatever predictions were given in early November, these teams have months of play to impress or disappoint us, and we’ve already seen a lot of that since this season began.
Recent years have reinforced that the Big 12 is one of the best basketball conferences in the country. It’s not just that this is one of the power conferences, but the basketball play in this league has been at another level. Even when the league had just ten teams a few years ago, the Big 12 was constantly putting a majority of their teams into the NCAA Tournament, and it’s no different nowadays, even as the number of members has swelled to 16.
We’ve progressed through nearly the entirety of nonconference play, meaning we’ve had several weeks of seeing and getting to know these teams from the Big 12. However, no matter what a team has accomplished, the games in league play clearly matter a lot more. We’re just about to open Big 12 play in the coming weeks, but what exactly do we know about this league before New Year’s?
Today’s task is answering that question by looking closely at where each of these sixteen teams currently stand. We’re ranking the teams in the Big 12 based on how they’ve played in the opening month of the season, keeping in mind that there’s a lot of basketball left. Did some of these teams stack up wins against a weak schedule or are we underrating teams that were significantly challenged? We’ll get right into those questions while looking closely at the teams in one of the nation’s best conferences.
