12. TCU Horned Frogs

Jamie Dixon has made the TCU Horned Frogs a consistent NCAA Tournament threat at his alma mater. That will be tested in 2024-25 because TCU has practically lost the entirety of last year’s roster. But can that be a good thing?

The knock on last year’s team was its inconsistency in its backcourt. Its new-look background welcomes Frankie Collins (Arizona State) and Noah Reynolds (Green Bay). Both lead their previous schools in points per game. Both shot 40% or better from the field. That’s a plus.

Despite this, the Horned Frogs faced far too much off-season turbulence and have too many unknowns to cement themselves as a clear-cut top-level Big 12 team. They will be competitive -- it’s what Jamie Dixon does best -- but its ceiling is limited in 2024-25.

11. Arizona State Sun Devils

If one thing is certain about the 2024-25 Arizona State Devils, it’s that Bobby Hurley -- who finds himself on the hot seat-- is going all-in.

Among the biggest winners of the 2024 NCAA basketball recruiting classes, Bobby Hurley flipped five-star big Jayden Quaintance and four-star SG Josh Sanon to give the Sun Devils two NBA-level prospects in Tempe. But that’s not all.

Adam Miller returns and a trio of high-scoring transfers -- BJ Freeman (Milwaukee), Alston Mason (Missouri State) andBasheer Jihad (Ball State) round out its talent-heavy roster. The Sun Devils have the on-paper talent to make some noise. If Bobby Hurley can push the right buttons, this is a team to look out for in its first season in the Big 12.
