Coach Buzz Williams’ first year in Big Ten Basketball was an “F”, a season where nothing went right. Especially when forward Payne suffered a season-ending injury. He’s back, joined by Buljan, who averaged a double-double at New Mexico, and Olatundun, one of the highest-rated incoming prospects out of high school in program history.
The backcourt is where the questions still lie. Mills was a lone brightspot last year and returns. Wagner, a former five-star prospect who has been solid but not great, is likely to start. That may not be what gets the Terps back into contention. Boswell will help them on defense, but he’s far from a scorer.
Considering the lack of momentum coming into the offseason, it’s a fine roster for Maryland as Coach Williams looks to bounce back. There are still flaws and concerns, but the ceiling is higher than most teams coming off a bottom-tier finish.
