14. Nebraska (3-1)
Last year unquestionably exceeded expectations at Nebraska, as the Cornhuskers made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in a decade. They stood firm and won a handful of games, actually finishing near the top of the Big Ten standings. Unfortunately, Keisei Tominaga and a few other key pieces from last year’s success are gone, leaving Nebraska heading back towards their usual finish in this league.
This team won its first three games at home over weak mid-major programs, though it was an offensive struggle in game two against Bethune Cookman in a tight win. Last weekend progressed about as expected, though the Cornhuskers lost by just 3 points to a strong Saint Mary’s squad. After significant shooting issues in Lincoln, Nebraska shot better in that neutral-site loss in South Dakota, but questions still remain.
Brice Williams has emerged as the go-to weapon and leader this season, with other pieces like Connor Essegian and Juwan Gary expected to help carry the load. On paper, this roster has the talent to compete and win numerous games in the Big Ten, though there’s no question they’ve taken a step back in the offseason. We’ll just have to see how Nebraska handles the challenges ahead, notably facing rival Creighton this Friday night.
