9. Greg Gard (Wisconsin)

Gard has spent his entire career in the state of Wisconsin and a lot of it is because of Bo Ryan. He coached under the legend for more than two decades at Wisconsin-Platteville, Milwaukee, and now with the Badgers. Gard was on staff when the Badgers made those Final Four runs in 2014 and 2015 and succeeded Ryan only a few months later.

It’s been a mixed bag of results over the last eleven years, with Gard taking the Badgers to Sweet Sixteen’s in each of his first two seasons. While some great moments and a few Big Ten titles have followed, the Badgers haven’t matched that postseason success and have suffered several notable Tourney upsets.

He’s won a ton of games and manufactured some pretty talented teams in Madison, but Gard just hasn’t taken the Badgers to that next level quite yet. He’s nearly a decade removed from a trip to the second weekend of the Big Dance despite making six trips since then. The body of work is pretty impressive if you ignore those shortcomings but it’s hard to prop Gard up too high with these tough losses.
