16. Mike Boynton Jr. (Michigan)

If everything goes according to plan, the one true winner of this shocking news could be Boynton if the Wolverines give him their full-time gig. He played point guard at South Carolina and worked at a number of schools, including under a current Big Ten head coach at Oklahoma State. However, that first head coaching gig didn’t exactly go as planned.

Boynton succeeded Brad Underwood with the Cowboys back in 2017 and only made a single trip to the NCAA Tournament in his seven years. He’s a fantastic recruiter and there’s no question about that; his one Tourney team was built on the back of Cade Cunningham in 2021. However, his Cowboys fell short and really bottomed out in his final season before his firing.

Fresh off a national championship, Michigan is not going to accept those kinds of results, though the Wolverines as a program are in much different shape than Oklahoma State. If this roster can somehow stay together, Boynton has a shot to maintain the Wolverines’ supremacy and he’s certainly learned a ton since that stint in Stillwater.
