12. Darian DeVries (Indiana)

A major opportunity came DeVries’ way last offseason and he took it by the horns. A former player at Northern Iowa, he spent a lot of his early career in the MVC, including a long stretch on staff at Creighton. In his first head coaching job, DeVries won 150 games across six years with Drake, including three trips to the NCAA Tournament. He then made his way to West Virginia and the Big 12 in 2024 but had a shorter stay than most expected.

The Mountaineers only got DeVries for one 19-win campaign because Bloomington came calling last offseason. DeVries took Indiana’s head coaching job and finished 18-14 in his debut, settling for a mediocre 10th place finish in the league. We’re not trying to compare his work to any other coaches in the league but it’s fair to be underwhelmed by that first season.

Much like we mentioned before with Ohio State, the Hoosiers as a program expect to be a national contender so this 18-win season needs to be a starting point and not the expectation. DeVries has only just gotten started and has some intriguing pieces together for next season, but it’s pretty clear that he’s yet to prove himself at the power conference level.
