11. Buzz Williams (Maryland)
It’s been a wildly eventful career for Williams, now at his fifth head coaching job and his ninth different school overall. He’s been coaching for more than thirty years and notably worked wonders leading Marquette, Virginia Tech, and Texas A&M. Williams led those first two programs on deep postseason runs and then bolted from the Aggies in 2025 when the Maryland job suddenly came open.
After three straight trips to the Big Dance at Texas A&M, Williams had a significant struggle last year. After prior success in the Big East, ACC, and SEC, it was a really tough start in the Big Ten. Maryland made the Sweet Sixteen last season but finished just 12-21 and in 17th place this past season. That rough start alone really shrinks where Williams might have been on a list like this.
Regardless of how exhausted and underwhelmed people in College Park might be, Williams has had just one season and still has every opportunity to turn things around. The program has been pretty fine overall in recent years and there are some talented faces joining the Terrapins with the hopes of actually contending in the Big Ten soon. Could we see Williams rising back up by this time next year?
