Bracketology 2025: Gonzaga, UCF, Purdue and Wisconsin among season's early winners
Gonzaga Bulldogs - 3-0
Between suffering rare losses outside the top 25 and other teams struggling on their schedule, Gonzaga’s non-con results weren’t very good outside of Kentucky. So far, they’ve handled business, beating Baylor and Arizona State. That Bears win should age nicely, and even the Sun Devils have shown signs of talent and are a threat in the Big 12.
The Bulldogs have plenty of opportunities in the new few weeks before WCC play, starting with a road game at San Diego State on Monday. The Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, Kentucky and UConn, will help give them Quad 1 opportunities in their fight for a 1 seed in the Big Dance.
New Mexico Lobos - 3-0
The entire top half of the Mountain West could be included, with teams such as Nevada and others handling business so far. But the best win to date is the Lobos neutral site win over UCLA in the first week of the season. That win should age well and likely get into the Quad 1 range.
A big opportunity comes on Sunday, with New Mexico going on the road to face St. John’s in the head coaching father vs son battle. A win by the Lobos would give them another Quad 1 victory and likely get the Mountain West team into the next top-25 poll.
