It was destiny for Cameron Boozer to play basketball and likely for the Duke Blue Devils. His father, Carlos, is a Duke legend, and given that he had two boys (the other being Cameron’s twin brother Cayden) who happen to be good at Basketball, it was written in the stars, as they say.
A Legacy Written in the Stars
Given how the season has started for Boozer, the Duke Blue Devils are pleased that Cameron decided to follow in his father's footsteps and head to Duke.
A Legacy Written in the Stars
Cameron was one of the top recruits in the country last year and was expected to be a lottery pick and have an outside chance at being the first pick in the NBA Draft. No one expected the big man to have the start to the season that he is having. Boozer is currently playing like one of the best freshmen to ever play for Duke.
Numbers That Defy the Usual Freshman Ceiling
It sounds like a stretch, but what you are about to read will make it all make sense. Boozer put up 35 points and nine rebounds on Thanksgiving night in a win over Arkansas. That excellent game against Arkansas put Boozer in the company of one, himself. He is the only player in the NBA and the NCAA to score 175+ points, 75+ rebounds, 25+ assists, and 10 or fewer turnovers while leading his team to an undefeated record. No one at the highest levels of basketball has put up that stat line over eight games in 30 seasons. That's right, not Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron, you catch the drift.
Rewriting Duke History One Game at a Time
This is also impressive because it shows Boozer's sustained dominance, which also includes two 35-point games. No Duke freshman has ever achieved multiple 35-point games. That last part is unbelievable to think about, given how many excellent freshmen have come through that program. Boozer has achieved something that wasn’t done by Cooper Flagg, Luol Deng, Jahlil Okafor, Paolo Banchero, Jayson Tatum, and so many others. Again, in a long string of dominance.
A Trajectory That Points Toward All-Time Greatness
It has only been eight games, but if the superstar freshman continues to put up these types of numbers, he is going to go down in history as the most outstanding freshman in Duke history, which is wild to say, given how good Cooper Flagg was last season. Boozer also has a chance to be the Wooden Player of the Year, the Freshman of the Year, and the top overall pick in the NBA Draft.
A Star Carrying the Blue Devils Forward
The Boozer boys have good genes, and Cameron is carrying on his father's legacy wonderfully. Boozer is putting up huge numbers and is one of the best freshmen in the country, but the impact he has on winning can’t be replaced, and the Blue Devils are once again a National Title threat. I promise that by the end of December, everyone will be talking about the superstar freshman more than they already are.
