Cameron Carr came to Waco as a bit of a reclamation project. The former four-star recruit played sparingly as a freshman at Tennessee, then suffered a thumb injury just four games into his sophomore campaign that sidelined him for weeks. He opted to hit the transfer portal mid-season and seek a medical redshirt. He committed to Baylor Basketball a month later and enrolled for the second semester. Despite sitting out the remainder of that season, Carr is technically the Bears' only returner for 2025-26.
Under the Radar
Carr wasn't projected to be a surefire starter under Scott Drew because of his limited production in Knoxville, but he's certainly making the most of his opportunity. In the early going, he is averaging 23.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 67.6% from the field and 52.9% from three on 5.7 attempts per game. While it's a small sample size of three games, only one of which came against a power conference opponent, the tape has nonetheless popped. The Eden Prairie, MN native is flashing athleticism, deep range, and finishing capability that can make him a real asset in Big 12 play.
Regarding his fit in Scott Drew's system, Carr occupies a similar niche as former freshman standout Ja'Kobe Walter. Like Walter, also a 6-5 guard out of Link Academy, Carr is an athletic bucket-getter who isn't afraid to let it fly from behind the arc. Both are considered good defenders, although Carr may have a little more upside than Walter as a defensive playmaker due to slight advantages in both athletic burst and wingspan.
Added to Loaded List
Cameron Carr's emergence has been a welcome surprise for a Baylor squad looking for impactful contributions after losing players like Norchad Omier, VJ Edgecombe, Jeremy Roach, Rob Wright, and Langston Love. Although the absurd efficiency won't hold for the whole season, he is stepping up as the go-to scorer for Baylor and putting things on tape that could earn him some buzz ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft.
