College basketball fans have an outstanding collection of exhibition games to follow Tuesday, October 20, as the 2026-27 season approaches.

Two matchups featuring nationally ranked teams headline the evening.

No. 8 Tennessee travels to No. 2 Duke for a highly anticipated exhibition at Cameron Indoor Stadium, while No. 4 UConn visits No. 6 Michigan State in East Lansing.

Both games provide opportunities to evaluate teams expected to compete for major conference championships and potentially make deep NCAA Tournament runs.

Tuesday's schedule also features three additional matchups involving Division I programs.

Western Carolina travels to Appalachian State, Lindenwood visits Southern Illinois and Bowling Green faces Western Kentucky.

Although exhibition results don't affect regular-season records, these games provide valuable opportunities for coaches to evaluate their rosters against outside competition.

College basketball exhibition schedule for Tuesday, October 20

All tipoff times are Eastern.

Tennessee visits Duke in one of the preseason's biggest matchups

Tuesday's most recognizable exhibition features Tennessee traveling to Duke for a 7 p.m. ET matchup at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Blue Devils enter the season ranked No. 2 nationally, while the Volunteers begin at No. 8.

Both programs have established themselves as consistent national contenders.

Duke finished the 2025-26 season with 35 victories and reached the Elite Eight before suffering a narrow loss to UConn.

Tennessee also reached the Elite Eight, continuing an impressive stretch under Rick Barnes.

The Volunteers have advanced to the regional finals in three consecutive seasons, although they have yet to reach the Final Four.

Tuesday's matchup represents the second consecutive year the programs have scheduled a preseason exhibition against one another.

Duke defeated Tennessee 83-76 in Knoxville on October 26, 2025.

This season's meeting takes place in Durham, providing the Blue Devils with an opportunity to compete against a nationally ranked opponent in their home arena.

The matchup also offers valuable preparation before both teams begin demanding regular-season schedules.

Tennessee is coming off an 86-70 exhibition loss to Xavier on October 15, creating additional motivation to deliver an improved performance.

Fans can watch Tuesday's game on ACC Network, with radio coverage available through the Vol Network.

UConn and Michigan State meet in another Top 10 showdown

Tuesday's other major exhibition features UConn traveling to Michigan State.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at the Breslin Center.

The matchup brings together two programs with outstanding postseason histories and experienced head coaches.

UConn enters the season ranked No. 4 nationally after reaching the 2026 national championship game.

The Huskies fell to Michigan in the title game, ending another impressive postseason run under Dan Hurley.

Michigan State begins the season ranked No. 6 under longtime head coach Tom Izzo.

The Spartans have established an extraordinary tradition of NCAA Tournament success, including 28 consecutive appearances.

Both teams will use Tuesday's exhibition to evaluate their progress against demanding competition.

UConn opened exhibition play with a 72-52 victory over Syracuse on October 13.

Michigan State previously defeated Incarnate Word 89-59 in its first exhibition.

The matchup also provides an opportunity to evaluate two teams expected to compete near the top of their respective conferences.

Tuesday's game will be available on B1G+, with radio coverage through the UConn Sports Network.

Western Carolina and Appalachian State renew a mountain rivalry

Western Carolina travels to Appalachian State for a 6:30 p.m. ET exhibition at the Holmes Convocation Center.

The matchup features two programs with longstanding geographic connections.

Western Carolina competes in the Southern Conference, while Appalachian State represents the Sun Belt.

Although the teams now compete in different leagues, their shared history creates an appealing preseason matchup.

Western Carolina enters its third season under head coach Tim Craft.

The Catamounts have experienced considerable roster turnover, returning four players while adding numerous newcomers.

That makes Tuesday's exhibition particularly valuable.

Craft and his staff will have an opportunity to evaluate how the new roster performs against an unfamiliar opponent.

Appalachian State will also benefit from another opportunity to prepare for regular-season competition.

Western Carolina's athletic department has confirmed that the exhibition will not have live video or live statistics.

Southern Illinois welcomes Lindenwood to Carbondale

Southern Illinois will host Lindenwood at 7 p.m. ET in an exhibition at Banterra Center.

The Salukis enter their third season under head coach Scott Nagy, who has accumulated extensive experience throughout his college basketball coaching career.

Nagy reached his 600th career victory during the 2025-26 season, another milestone in a career that includes successful tenures at South Dakota State and Wright State.

Tuesday's matchup provides Southern Illinois with its first public exhibition opportunity at Banterra Center this preseason.

The university has announced free admission for fans attending the game.

Lindenwood provides an opportunity for the Salukis to evaluate their preparation against another Division I program.

Southern Illinois will also host Tennessee Tech in an exhibition on October 25 before beginning the regular season November 2 against Maryville.

Fans unable to attend Tuesday's game can follow audio coverage through The Varsity Network.

Live statistics will also be available.

Bowling Green and Western Kentucky meet in the Battle of Bowling Green

Tuesday's final scheduled tipoff features Bowling Green traveling to Western Kentucky.

The exhibition begins at 7:30 p.m. ET at E.A. Diddle Arena.

The matchup carries an unusual geographic connection because both universities are located in cities named Bowling Green.

Western Kentucky is based in Bowling Green, Kentucky, while Bowling Green State University is located in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The schools have promoted the exhibition as the Battle of Bowling Green.

For Western Kentucky, the game represents the first opportunity to evaluate the Hilltoppers against outside competition before the regular season.

Bowling Green also opens its exhibition schedule with the matchup.

Both teams are preparing for demanding conference competition and will use the game to evaluate their rotations and defensive execution.

Western Kentucky has another important exhibition scheduled for October 25 against Indiana.

Tuesday's matchup will be available through radio coverage on 100.7 FM and The Varsity Network.

Which exhibition game should fans watch Tuesday?

Tennessee at Duke and UConn at Michigan State are the clear headliners.

Both feature nationally ranked teams, experienced coaching staffs and programs with realistic expectations of competing for major postseason accomplishments.

Tennessee-Duke offers the atmosphere of Cameron Indoor Stadium and a rematch of last year's preseason exhibition.

UConn-Michigan State provides another opportunity to evaluate teams that could eventually meet during March Madness.

However, Tuesday's other three matchups also offer interesting opportunities to follow programs preparing for the regular season.

Western Carolina and Appalachian State renew a regional connection, Southern Illinois welcomes Lindenwood to Carbondale and the two Bowling Green programs meet in Kentucky.
