We’re getting the latest matchup in one of college basketball’s most prominent rivalries on Saturday and it’s a matchup of high importance on both sides. The SEC is a very difficult conference this season and that’s a big reason why both Alabama and Auburn need to show up in this rivalry tilt and take care of business..

Ignoring some defensive shortcomings, Alabama (15-7) has done largely solid work during a bumpy ride this season. The Crimson Tide are just 5-4 in the SEC and are less than a week removed from a big loss at Florida. As a result, they could really use another great showing on the road, especially against a bitter rival, as they look to get back into the thick of this title race.

Things are certainly different from last season for Auburn (14-8), but these Tigers are still trying to leave their own mark. First-year head coach Steven Pearl hasn’t been amazing but has largely kept Auburn right into the thick of things with a 5-4 conference mark. Auburn had run off four straight wins, including a very impressive road win at Florida, before falling at Tennessee last weekend.

These two teams have both been battle-tested this season and haven’t necessarily been coming out on top always in this highly-anticipated matchups. The Crimson Tide know they have phenomenal talent and shot making ability, but they really need to find a way to contain Auburn’s attack with a stronger defensive effort. The Tigers are trying to prove that they’re one of the best offensive teams in the SEC in this matchup that could produce some pretty high scores. Perhaps it boils down to whether Philon or Hall have the better performance, but in all likelihood someone else will need to star. Could it be recently eligible Bediako for Alabama, whose name remains in the news for obvious reasons?

With how they’ve been playing ball in recent weeks, can Alabama get back on the horse and play a strong game on both sides to sink their rival? Does Auburn continue their recent trend with their own defensive strength and limit the Crimson Tide for another big win?
