There has surprisingly been no shortage of great matchups in the early weeks of this college basketball season but this Wednesday night matchup might take the cake. A pair of Top 5 teams face off in New England with plenty on the line, as both Arizona and UConn are coming off major wins and looking for even more progress here in November.
The early returns out of Arizona (4-0) have been significant at a national level. Despite the fact that the Wildcats are starting three freshmen and lost considerable talent from last year, Arizona has the nation’s best resume after two weeks. They surprised many by knocking off defending champ Florida on opening night before getting another great performance against UCLA last week, though this next hostile road environment will be their biggest test yet.
You’ll find few complaints for UConn (4-0) after their first few weeks of play, especially with the Huskies fresh off a hard-fought win over BYU last weekend. The Huskies brought back significant pieces and have national title aspirations, looking to get back into that conversation after their recent back-to-back crowns. This mid-November battle at home is a major chance to show that potential.

Highlighting just the starters seems inadequate, as both teams are getting great run from important pieces off the bench, with Arizona’s Anthony Dell’Orso notably averaging more than 13 points a game. The Wildcats will need a fantastic defensive effort against UConn’s strong front and to hit a few more of those outside shots that weren’t always falling in the first weeks of the season. The Huskies got that big win last weekend but you can bet that Dan Hurley’s squad will be ready for war against this strong offensive attack.
Is Arizona actually about to pull off a third notable victory within the first three weeks of the season or will the Huskies rise up at home and get their own standout performance? We’ll just have to see how Wednesday night plays out, but whichever defense shows up will have the upper hand.
