After four conference games, every SEC team has at least one loss with a clump forming at the top between five 3-1 squads, including Arkansas, who bounced back from a double-digit loss to Auburn to win by 34 points at home against South Carolina.

The Hogs can score with the best of them behind star freshman guard Darius Acuff Jr., averaging over 90 points per game in conference. Georgia can fill up the scoreboard, too. The Bulldogs lead the nation at 96.2 points per game, so defense will be key.

Despite a season-high 32 points from leading scorer Jeremiah Wilkinson, Georgia lost by two points on a last second tip-in against Ole Miss on Tuesday, dropping it to 2-2 in conference. Mike White’s team has played an extra period in half of its conference games.

With Vanderbilt suffering its first loss of the season Wednesday, five teams sit tied for the top spot in the SEC. Arkansas is among the bunch along with Texas A&M, Missouri and Florida. Behind the five-team group are seven teams knotted at 2-2. Saturday’s winner will pick up a massive win for conference standing.

Game Outlook

It’s no secret these two teams can fill up the scoreboard, but they do it in two different styles. Arkansas takes care of the ball and finds opportunities at all three levels. The Hogs don’t shoot a ton of deep balls but convert on over 39 percent of their tries.

Meanwhile, Georgia launches from deep at a higher rate but has worse efficiency. However, Georgia is one of the best at converting two-point attempts. The Bulldogs also attack the offensive glass hard, averaging 14 offensive rebounds per game, which ranks top 15 in the nation.

Arkansas has struggled to keep teams off the glass and allows opponents to shoot nearly 53 percent on two-point tries. In Arkansas’ four losses, opponents shot a combined 57 percent on two-pointers.

John Calipari has another star freshman guard that will likely be in the NBA next season with Acuff, who finished Tuesday’s game with 13 assists and zero turnovers. He’s also averaging 23 points in conference play. Fellow freshman Meleek Thomas has given the Hogs a scoring punch off the bench, hitting at least two three-pointers in all four conference games, including a five-for-five showing Tuesday.

Given Georgia’s home court and perceived advantage in the interior, the Bulldogs should have enough firepower to withstand Arkansas and pull ahead .500 and reach 3-2 in conference play.
