Plenty of attention will be on this SEC rematch between a pair of teams currently trending in very opposite directions. Auburn and Arkansas are both great teams in very different positions, especially since the Tigers got the best of the Razorbacks in their previous matchup last month. Will things end differently this time around in Fayetteville?

Everybody knew that Auburn (14-10) was not the same team that went to the Final Four last season. The Tigers have had their fair share of struggles but let’s not act like they’re some punching bag. They have an impressive win at Florida, beat St. John’s by double-digits, and despite a rough record are right there for a trip to the Big Dance. Unfortunately, they’ve dulled that potential with this current three-game losing streak, including a pair of losses at home.

It’s the opposite story for Arkansas (18-6), as John Calipari has his Razorbacks playing great ball at the right time. This team is now 8-3 in the SEC and is fresh off blowout wins over Mississippi State and LSU on the road. The Razorbacks have beaten Louisville, Tennessee, Texas Tech, and Vanderbilt this season and have a very legitimate path to an SEC regular season title in the weeks ahead.

Projected Starting Lineups

Auburn Tigers

Keyshawn Hall (20.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg)

Tahaad Pettiford (14.1 ppg, 3.5 apg)

Kevin Overton (12.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg)

KeShawn Murphy (10.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg)

Sebastian Williams-Adams (7.7 ppg, 3.6 rpg)

Arkansas Razorbacks

Darius Acuff Jr. (20.8 ppg, 6.3 apg)

Meleek Thomas (15.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg)

Trevon Brazile (12.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg)

Billy Richmond III (9.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg)

Nick Pringle (5.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg)

When these teams battled last month, Auburn won by 22 points as the team shot 57% from the field and got a heroic 32-point effort from Hall. They’ll need Hall and this offense to show up in a major way, but don’t expect a repeat performance. While Arkansas’s defense has clearly struggled at times, they’ll be on their home court this time and are as hot as they’ve been all season right now. Look for Acuff to impose his will after some struggles last time, while this could be an opportunity for Brazile to really stand out in this frontcourt. Arkansas hasn’t been shooting well during this recent hot streak; just imagine if they can find their footing from beyond the arc against a very iffy Auburn defense.

Hoping to get their season back on track, can Auburn slow the roll of the Razorbacks and get another big win over this team? Does Arkansas get their revenge, continue building this resume, and put themselves in prime position in the Sec race?
